Sea Street

                                                       Playing with Sea Street

I hope you're having a nice start to the weekend.  Our weather is supposed to cool down tomorrow and Sunday and I can't wait!!!  It's been a horrible week for San Diego - hot and windy - and devastating fires. As far as I kow right now, all of my friends are safe but many have had to evacuate their homes during the worst of the firestorm... in one case, my friend Pam had to evacuate her home and they went to a friend's in San Marcos... would you believe, the fires caused that area to require evacuation too!  Sending heartfelt prayers to those affected by these tragic fires.

I have been playing a little bit with my new 'Sea Street' stamp set.  This will be available when the new catalog goes live on June 2... but here are two very similar (but different) samples.

With this first one I used watercolor paper and brushed a wash of coastal cabana and some pistachio pudding to make the ocean background.  Then I stamped the little crabs and lobsters, some coastal cabana fishes and finally fussy cut the octopus and placed him inside the porthole, but "escaping".  The idea was to have him appear to be oozing out of the ocean into where the viewers would be.  Make any sense?  Hope so.  Anyway, I used 3 sizes of the circle dies and then put tiny brads around the circle.

Here in the second sample, I have used more
coastal cabana in the ocean using the background "blob" from the Happy Watercolor stamp set.  I also included a window sheet so it looks much more like a porthole.  The biggest difference was in card #2... I really didn't want to 'fussy cut' another octopus so I stamped him right in there with the crabs, lobsters, and fishies and then (before die cutting the circle) I cut around the tentacles that I wanted sticking out

....Like this....

see the brass ring next to the red?  That's the way you want to cut the circle so it doesn't chop off the tentacles.  I should have taken a 'step by step' series of pictures... but I didn't :-(.

Here are the two together.  I like them both, but am partial to the second one - that's usually the case with my "creations".  The sentiment is from the first Paper Pumpkin kit which says "hey there, friend".  Due to a lack of space, I just inked the 'hey there' and in card 2 I double punched with my decorative label punch.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!
