Remembrance

Today is a day of reflection and remembrance.  We were living in Navarre, Florida at that time but were on a golf outing in Door County, Wisconsin.  We were with neighbors and friends from Canada staying in Sister Bay.  As we drove to the golf course along tranquil country roads surrounded by the beauty of pines and sparkling lakes we were awed by the serenity and completely oblivious as to what we were about to encounter.  Perhaps that is why when the news started coming over the TV it was so difficult to grasp that such a heinous act was being dealt upon the innocent souls of our country.  It was just all too surreal.   We were all in shock and disbelief.  We all huddled around the TV ... many of us in tears.  We will always remember.......................

Crazy Card Club Sept

Hi Friends

If you read my blog fairly often I'm sure you're familiar with our Crazy Card Club.  I don't really know how that name got coined but we're a group that all enjoy card making and send a 'themed' card to each other every month.  We don't put our names on the cards ... that way, they can be resent/reused just like a brand new card.  Anyway, the theme for September was for a 'movement' card... pop up, spinner, slider ... well, this qualifies for none of the above!  But it's a neat card to make.

I'm not going to describe each one... I had very little 12 x 12 cardstock and, although you can make these with 8 1/2 x 11, it's much more practical to use 12 x 12.  So, as a result, each of mine is very different from the others but I kept the punching fairly consistent and the sentiment is from the first Paper Pumpkin kit ... hey there friend.

House Face Lift

Hi Friends...

The painters just finished up on Wednesday and I want to document the work that was done.  You won't  find cards on here today - just house pictures.  It has been years since the house was painted and the trim on the fascia and around the windows was in dire need of repair.  Of course, it started innocently enough.  A piece of the fascia fell off the house! That prompted further investigation and, turns out there was a lot of wood that was either rotten or split or both.  Not good.  Especially in the front where we get the west sun and also the south side.  I'm actually doing this blog for myself to have a chronology of progress pictures.  You're more than welcome to join me.

They also painted the patio cover/overhang.  

It looked like total chaos but everything was clean and nice when they were done.  They covered the brick patio with plastic.

Sunny Summer

Hi Friends

I've entitled this card 'sunny summer' because these are really summer-y colors.  This card is for the Color Throwdown which is to use the colors of Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, and Pumpkin Pie.  The first thought that popped into my mind were of popsicles... but, if you go look at the challenge site (click above) you'll see that Joan Ervin had the same idea (*smile*).   Also, my friend is borrowing my 'kinda eclectic' set for a few weeks, so I decided to work something up using that set.  

Here's what I came up with...

I love this "kinda eclectic" set... it's so versatile.  This time I paired it up with Petite Petals and the matching punch.  This was such a fun, quick and easy card to put together.  I cheated a little and used my pistachio pudding (second generation) for the leaves.  I also decided I didn't like seeing white around the edges of my petals so I used my dauber to give them some depth (and take off the white edge).  That was about all there was to it... I also added a piece of daffodil grosgrain ribbon above the sentiment.  Oh, yes, one more thing... I added some small and medium pearls to the flower centers... a little sparkle is a good thing.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed this card ... it sure is 'sunny'.

To Grandma's House

Hi Friends

Long time no see?  Well, we're getting a face lift for our house, trim, patio overhang, new gutters ... all that happy stuff... and it's kept me pretty busy.  I'll have pictures once it's all done.  

But, meanwhile, I did get the chance to work on this little card which is going to be entered in three challenges this week.

Here is my card

The cute little boy image is from a Penny Johnson design and he originally had a baseball hat on (backwards) but since I was making him into Christmas, I drew this little Santa hat on scrap paper, colored it, and stuck it on his head.  The paper is from Eskimo Kisses (Basic Grey), I colored with copics, and I also used three little candy dots (brights collection - SU) and that's about it.

Color Throwdown Sunflower

Today we're going to play with the Color Throwdown folks.  This weeks challenge is to use the colors of Pacific Point, Crushed Curry, and Old Olive.  Here is the inspiration picture... you can click here to view their fabulous samples.



As soon as I saw this inspiration photo, I guess the idea of a sunflower got hard wired into my brain and I just couldn't think of any other flower to use.  Fortunately, one of my favorite sets is by Flourishes Stamps, called 'sunflowers'.  Here is my card

As I've been saying in my previous blogs, I am trying to do more CAS cards (clean and simple) but, somehow, this card just needed to have some more detail so I went to a sketch I've had for some time and matched my colors with a strip of DSP from SU's Print Poetry mini stack.  

I colored the sunflower with my Copics and added a candy dot from the brights collection in Pacific Point to kind of balance the blues.  I love the sentiment which reads...

"Turn your face to the sun

and the shadows fall behind you"

I hope you like my sunny card ... it reminds me of a trip we took to Colorado one late summer and all the sunflowers were blooming in this one particular field.  We passed by it several times that day visiting friends and I noticed each time the sunflowers had their faces in a different direction... each time facing the sun!

Christmas Wishes

Hi Friends

Today I want to share a clean and simple card with you.   The challenge this week over at Merry Monday is to make a card with a wreath.  And, the challenge presented by the Paper Players is a sketch so I combined the two and will enter this card into both.  

     

For no particular reason, I chose to do my wreath in blues and silver.  Here it is....

I used an old combination set by Sizzix (Hero Arts) because it also has framelits with it.  As it turns out, I didn't end up using the framelits but did use the three snowflake stamps to form my wreath.  If this set has a name, I can't find it... but, if you are interested the #657781 is in the corner and perhaps you can find it that way.   

My colors are Pacific Point and Coastal Cabana on whisper white with rhinestones for a little bling.  I also used my snowflake embossing folder for the first layer.  The sentiment is from Verve's 'Ornamental Christmas'.
